ST. JOSEPH (MONT.) VS. DON BOSCO PLAYOFF FOOTBALL GAME SUSPENDED MID-GAME BY WEATHER

St. Joseph (Mont.) vs. Don Bosco playoff football game suspended mid-game by weather
A playoff football game between St. Joseph and Don Bosco Prep was postponed late in the first quarter Saturday after a thunderstorm hit the area in Montvale.

The game will be restarted Sunday at 1 p.m., according to officials on site.

The game, a quarterfinal matchup in the Non-Public A bracket, was scoreless with 1:31 remaining in the first quarter when teams were sent to the locker room following the first lightning strike. St. Joseph will have the ball facing third and two at the Don Bosco 46-yard line when action resumes.

St. Joseph does not have lights, which forced officials to move the game to Sunday.

“It’s just another situation we’ll deal with and meet head on. We’ll be ready,” St. Joseph coach Dan Marangi said.

St. Joseph (6-3) was on its second drive when the game was suspended. Don Bosco (6-4) took its opening possession into the red zone but stalled and turned the ball over on downs. Don Bosco junior Ronnie Heath led all players with four carries for 38 yards.

Third-seeded St. Joseph, which entered Saturday ranked No. 3 in the NJ.com Top 20, received a bye in the first round last weekend while No. 10 Don Bosco Prep, the No. 6 seed, rolled to a 42-7 win over Paul VI last Friday in Ramsey. The winner Sunday will advance to face second-seeded St. Augustine next weekend in Richland.

St. Joseph pulled out a 21-14 victory over Don Bosco in the regular season on Oct. 23 in Montvale.
